Zaferan is a product for liver and gallbladder health. Curcumin, which is part of the rhizomes, enhances the contractile activity of the gallbladder, the formation of bile acids in liver cells and the outflow of bile, reduces the level of bad cholesterol (low-density lipoproteins) in the blood.
Properties of Zaferan
It has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the gall bladder and liver:
- normalizes the process of bile secretion and the formation of bile acids;
- reduces inflammatory and intoxication processes in the liver;
- normalizes metabolism;
- has an antioxidant effect.
Action of the active ingredients
Turmeric is a distant relative of ginger. No wonder the inhabitants of India, China, Ceylon and Java call it “yellow ginger”. Among all types of turmeric, the most valuable is Curcuma longa, or common turmeric, the aromatic rhizome, which is part of all types of spicy spices. For many of us, turmeric is primarily known as a spice with a delicate, ginger-like aroma and bitter-burning taste. It is this color and aroma that give the plant the most important biologically active substances turmeric, curcuminoids, including curcumin, as well as essential oils.
Thanks to these substances, turmeric is now also considered a medicinal plant that mainly stimulates the production of bile and improves the functioning of the gallbladder and liver. Curcuminoids actively affect the smooth muscles of the gallbladder, increasing its tone and contributing to the contraction and emptying of the gallbladder. They also increase the synthesis of bile acids in the liver cells, and thus the amount of bile secreted, accelerate the outflow of bile through the intrahepatic bile ducts, thus preventing thickening and stasis of bile.
The improvement of choleretic functions by curcuminoids is directly related to the cholesterol-regulating effect. Due to its stimulating effect on bile acids and phospholipids, curcumin accelerates the breakdown of low-density cholesterol and triglycerides in the bile, thereby reducing the likelihood of cholesterol clots forming in the liver itself, and especially in the gallbladder, which eventually turn into cholesterol stones.
It is important to note that curcuminoids have a strong antioxidant effect. They protect liver cells from oxidative damage, prevent the oxidation of bile acids themselves, the end products of cholesterol metabolism, and promote their excretion. And curcumin also reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, the main mediators of gallbladder inflammation.
In addition, the biologically active substances of turmeric are involved in the production of special enzymes (eg glutathione peroxidase), which protect the liver from the effects of toxins and xenobiotics (pesticides, household chemicals, drugs). Turmeric not only cleanses and improves blood circulation, but also stimulates the formation of red blood cells. This plant regulates metabolism, corrects both excess and deficiency of metabolic processes and promotes protein absorption.
